What happened
Bern adopted the Reformation in January 1528 and in the same month ordered executions of rebaptized Anabaptists who would not recant. First executions 1529; first native Bernese executed 1530 (Konrad Eichacher of Steffisburg). Disputations 1531, 1532 (Zofingen) and 1538 (Bern), the last with ‘many Anabaptists from the Emme River valley’. From 1534 Anabaptists had to be registered in lists.
