Magdalena Lantz (Zook) Kurtz

Christophel; Commemorative Biographical Record (1889)

Born Lantz; widow of a Zook when she married Abraham Kurtz (1769–1830) (after June 1808). Mother of Fanny Kurtz (b. 3 Jun 1810). After Abraham died in Wayne County in 1830 she “lived the rest of her life with her daughter Fanny”.

Her first husband is not named. Family links: her stepson Joseph Kurtz (b. 1808) married Lydia Zook, daughter of David Zook and Anna Lantz (Lantz Family Record), so the Lantz, Zook and Kurtz families were already tied together. The Lantz and Zook families were Amish neighbours from Mifflin County who settled together in Green Township, Wayne County (Christian Lantz and John Zook gave the Paradise cemetery land in 1824). Lead: Jeptha Plank’s first wife was a Barbara Zook; whether she was Magdalena’s daughter by her first marriage is unknown.

  • 2026-11-01: Jacob W. Lantz, The Lantz Family Record (archive.org lantzfamilyrecor00lant) searched: the Caernarvon/Mifflin Lantzes descend from Hans Lantz (d. after 1778) and Anna Maria; his son Christian (m. 1st Barbara Kurtz; to Mifflin Co. early 1790s; killed c.1806–10) had a daughter Magdalena, but she was born 26 Apr 1803 and married Henry Stutzman, so not this Magdalena. Christian’s daughter Anna (b. 1778) married David Zook; their daughter Lydia married Joseph Kurtz (Abraham’s son, b. 1808). No Lantz Magdalena married to a Zook and then Abraham Kurtz is in the book. Her parents are probably among Hans Lantz’s other sons (John, Jacob, Samuel, Peter, Henry)
