Life and evidence
His father Casper Schrock (Hostetler 1938, no. 3161; Plank reunion notes, 1926; Glades Star)
Named “son of Casper Schrock” (1938). Casper Schrock, born in Switzerland about 1745, married Mary Stuckey and settled near Berlin, Brothersvalley Twp., Somerset Co., Pa. (on its tax list); he “and two brothers migrated to America”. A 1926 Plank-family note lists Casper’s sons as Joseph (b. 1784), Henry, John, Christian (1780–1847), Nicholas, David, Abraham, Jacob and Peter, with one daughter: Michael is not in that list, though the Oak Grove history calls Michael a brother of minister Peter Schrock. Treat Casper as his father with caution. Note: the Oak Grove minister Peter Schrock (b. 22 Mar 1801, m. Fanny Plank) was a son of Joseph Schrock (b. 1784), son of Casper; he was too young to be Michael’s brother, so the “brother of minister Peter Schrock” in the Oak Grove history may mean a different Peter or be an error. Alternatives: Casper’s brother John, or Ulrich Schrock, both heads of Schrock households near Berlin at the time (Brethren history 1916; Troyer book). Michael lived at Berlin/Shanksville, Somerset Co., before moving to Wayne Co., Ohio. Best test: the Brothersvalley tax lists 1796–1810 and Somerset Co. estate papers for Casper (did a Michael inherit?).
Married Susanna Yoder (a Hostetler descendant) in Somerset County, Pa.; in Green Township, Wayne County by 1830. Ten children: Stephen (1811–1880), Tobias, Elizabeth, Sarah, Fanny, Samuel (1820–1893), Barbara, John, Moses, Michael.

Research log
- 2026-10-31: Hochstetler 1912 and Stutzman 1938 searched: 1938 no. 3161 lists Casper Schrock’s children (Henry, John, Christian, Michael, Katie m. David Stutzman, David, Joseph, Abraham…) but does not name their mother; the 1912 Casper Schrock (m. Mary Zook; son of John and Elizabeth Schrock, m. 1778) is a different, later Casper. Mother ‘Mary Stuckey’ rests only on the family notes
