Life and evidence
Marriage found in the original register (2026-10-31)
Eggiwil marriages (K Eggiwil 17, Eherodel 1648–1800), image 7, 15 May 1663: “Ulli Ramseyer und Barbli Stauffer”. The same couple, “Ulli Ramseyer und Barbli Stauffer”, had Christen baptized at Eggiwil on 26 May 1672 (K Eggiwil 1, p. 148).
On 25 Sept 1663 a Peter Ramseyer married Elsbeth Stauffer in the same parish: possibly a brother marrying a sister (unproven). A later “Ulli Ramseyer und Elsbeth Stauffer” marriage (1693) may be a second marriage of Ulli after Barbli’s death, or another man.
Link to Hans (1594) still unproven: a marriage in 1663 fits a birth about 1635–40, but the Signau baptism register has a gap from 1618 to 1650, so Ulrich’s own baptism cannot be checked there.
Staker’s chain; dates contradictory.
Status of the early chain (2026-10-31)
Checked in the registers: Hans bapt. Signau 1594 to Ludi Ramseyer and Madlen Huser; Ulli Ramseyer × Barbli Stauffer married Eggiwil 1663; Christen bapt. Eggiwil 1672 to them. One link is still unproven: that Ulrich (m. 1663) is Hans’s son. Signau has no baptisms for 1618–1650, so it must come from other records (Hans’s 1629 farm purchase, inheritance or Chorgericht records). Peter (c.1534) → Ludwig is also unchecked.
2002 Family Record (p. IX–X)
The Family Record gives the same line: Peter (b. 1535, Signau; wife Christina) → Ludwig (b. 1568) → Hans (b. 1594) → Ullrich (b. 1640) → Christian (b. 1672). It adds: Christina was present at a baptism at Lauperswil; the family’s children were baptized as infants (so not yet Anabaptist); Hans bought a farm in 1629; Ullrich was a saddler “who moved several times during his marriage”. The book credits Adolph Ramseyer, a Swiss police officer who researched Ramseyers, so it and Staker probably rest on the same unpublished research: they agree but are not independent confirmation.
Six children baptized at Eggiwil, 1664–1679
Anna (1664), Elsbeth (1668), Ulli (1669), Christen (1672), Hans (1675), Barbara (1679); from 1668 at the farm Diepoldsbühl. Details and godparents: Ulrich Ramseyer + Barbara Stauffer (m. unknown).
